Facts have emerged that there are indeed deep cracks in the Kogi State chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party.
Already, key members of the party, financiers and other stakeholders have taken position and are covertly identifying with the parallel structures which may emerge any moment from now.
The Observer Times noted that the reason for the heightened tension cannot be divorced from the fact that there is currently no duly constituted state presidential campaign council in Kogi State; a development that has made the PDP from Kogi State deeply worried that the chances of presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar winning Kogi State may be a mirage.
There have been speculations that as far back as ten days ago, a state campaign council will be unveiled and inaugurated but this has so far remained in the pipeline due to the recent attitudes and activities of some individuals initially penciled down for certain positions.
This development is leaving party members at the grassroot with an option of hobnobbing with the APC since it is unclear what the outcome of the current situation may be.
In the last 72 hours, facts emerged that whereas no formal campaign council has been unveiled, there appears to be a shadow committee comprising former governor Alh. Ibrahim Idris, former state assembly speaker Clarence Olorunfemi and Sola Akamode serving as secretary. This group The Observer Times noted have gone on to commence activities towards raising support for the presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar.
When asked, a member of the PDP in the state Alhaji Ahmed Yinusa stated that it is imperative for members of the party to support the Alhaji Ibrahim Idris led group because the individuals who make up the rival group especially Sen. Ahmadu Ali and Chief Yomi Awoniyi have plenty questions to answer about their effectiveness in the 2015 elections which saw President Goodluck Jonathan scoring less votes than expected. Among them in Ahmodu Ali and Akamode camp are Hajia Halima Alfa, Senator Attai Aidoko who has already named himself as Atiku Coordinator Kogi East against Chief John Odawu, AVM Atawodi, Abdullahi Ohioma.
It can be recalled that they and several other individuals who make up the rival team played key roles in the 2015 general elections; the outcome of which created an impression that the Kogi State chapter of the PDP is weak.
While members of the rival group may have concluded plans to announce a parallel presidential campaign council in the state any moment from now, party members in the state look forward to further directives from the leader of the party in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris.
It was gathered that a major grouse of members of the Ahmadu Ali’s group is that the composition of the shadow team appears to be made up of only core loyalists of former Gov. Idris.
However, a source in the Ibrahim Idris group wrote off the argument and insisted that competence, capacity, track record and commitment were the major criteria used to shortlist individuals who will hold key positions in the state campaign council when it is eventually unveiled noting that already, high powered mobilization is already ongoing at the various LG, Ward and Polling Unit levels across the three zones in the state.
In the same vein, a high profile member of Ibrahim Idris camp and a stakeholder in PDP in Idah local government, Ibrahim Attah, said Ahmodu Ali as campaign DG to Jonathan refused to cast his own vote on the election day, after made his Son to head supporting group in Kogi state.
Abdullahi Ohioma the stakeholders in Ahmodu Ali camp alleged that Ibrahim idris is all out to work for his Son Abuh Idris to emerges as the next PDP gubernatorial in Kogi state
